Attended by State Secretary Hartmut Schauerte (German Federal Ministry of Economics) and leading representatives of the Shanghai District of Pudong, the full expansion of the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) was kicked off when a significant capital increase was signed in Shanghai on 9 July 2009. SNIEC’s Registered Capital has now been increased by 25 million US dollars; the Total Investment for the construction amounts to 320 million US dollars. SNIEC is a joint venture between the exhibition companies of Düsseldorf, Hannover and Munich and the Chinese Lujiazui Exhibition Development Corporation, which is owned by the Shanghai Municipal Government.
State Secretary Hartmut Schauerte comments: “This joint venture has developed in short time to be the most successful exhibition centre in China. As a platform for significant international trade fairs it serves to strengthen the bilateral economic relations between China and Germany. It forms an excellent German investment, especially in such difficult economic times.”
Since the foundation of SNIEC in 2000 and its start of operation in 2001, the exhibition centre was continuously expanded. The venue currently comprises 11 exhibition halls with 126,500 square metres of exhibition area.
The expansion to full capacity of 200,000 square metres of hall area and 130,000 square metres of outdoor exhibition area will be completed by the end of 2010. The CEOs Werner Dornscheidt (Düsseldorf), Wolfram von Fritsch (Hannover) and Manfred Wutzlhofer (Munich) jointly state: “The fast expansion to full capacity of SNIEC implemented by three globally leading German exhibition organisers, evidences the role, the exhibition industry plays in the breathtaking economic development of China and East Asia. The involved three German exhibition organisers have demonstrated their strength in a highly competitive market. We are pleased that thus we can contribute to the Chinese and Asian exhibition industry.”
On behalf of the Chinese joint venture partner, Yang Xiaoming, Chairman of SNIEC, states: “SNIEC’s success stands for ten years of constructive cooperation between the Chinese and German partners resulting in creating Shanghai as the leading exhibition hub in China.“
In 2008, SNIEC hosted 81 events, 68,000 exhibitors and 2.7 million visitors. It recorded a turnover of 57 million Euros, which is an increase of 17 per cent compared to 2007.
